As a fashion statement-- indie is the less pathetic step-sibling of emo. It dresses better, is smarter, gets more dates, and has a slightly firmer grip on reality. It must be said, though, that although Indie doesn't cry at shows like Emo does, he/she will go home and cry ABOUT shows while writing in his/her journal. (see excerpt below)

The Fruit Bats show tonight was so fucking amazing. There was this one part when they went into like this twenty minute jam session and..oh my god. I actually died a little.

indie

Despite roots in the word "independant", indie has become anything but that. Being indie now involves listening to music that is top of the chart and so mainstream it is actually impossible to enjoy eg. snow patrol, arctic monkeys, and wearing clothes and hair exactly the same as the person walking alongside them, whatever their gender may be. Strangely, clothes, hair and music is now extremely similar to emo, only less black. Being indie commonly involves worshipping NME like it is holy scripture, again reducing their once independant status to mindless sheep.

Indie kid: "Man I've just heard the new Arctic Monkeys single, it's great how they understand and manage to emphasise the chav culture whilst pushing fun at it"

Anyone else: Shut up.

A kid who wears penguin clothing and white converse, usually with some sort of heart or something drawn on them. Listens to bloc party, Arctic Monkeys and other good euro indie because thats the good stuff. People alot like Matt. He is a good description

Matt Larsen is a very good singer and great example of an indie kid.

Indie Cindy

Coined by Hadouken! during a ravenous sing song, a girl who wears polka dot dresses and has hair resembling that of a Lego lady. Often these people attend public school (or private school if your American) and are scenesters.

Often seen buying beads in ''alternative'' outlets and behaving moodily. A common misconception of these people is that they may have received some form of botox in the lips due to an irregular and permanent myspace pout or pulling a screwface.

Often indie cindy’s and their complimentary pink-polo and tight black jeaned male friends do not realise they are not needed at gigs and provide embarrassment for themselves and give bands they follow a bad reputation.

Apparently highly contagious, the QUELP Knights are currently searching for a cure; although the breed may eventually kill themselves if they chose to cross the road rather than going down the street.

the most popular music,writing,film ect. that is still not very popular.

"Indie Pop Rocks" is an internet radiostation that plays all the popular new indie-rocker tunes.
---also, many upcoming bands, magazines ect. are considered inie pop until they make it into the Mainstream fame.
