possum people

1. The collective of people from the backwoods, swamp regions, country, or otherwise rural areas that possess possum-like attributes, i.e. long frame, thin face, close eyes, and long nose.

2. Those that might possess the physical attributes of an inbred population.

3. Those that rarely enter heavily populated areas, only purchases beer and ammunition, and quickly retreats to their native area.

A phrase that can be used two different ways. You can use it to tell some to be laid back about something. Or it can be a way of saying hunker down and get it done.

Mom: You're not supposed to be playing video games on school nights.
son: come on mom just possum up.
Example 2.
guy 1: I have a lot of work to do tonight.
guy 2: I guess you'll just have to possum up and get it done.

Pew Pressure

The phenomenon that occurs in a Catholic Church when someone stands at the wrong time and the rest of the congregation stands up too. This usually happens because no one really knows when to sit, stand, and kneel so they copy those around them.

This phrase comes from the commonly known phrase "peer pressure".

Mrs. McCreedy accidentally started to stand up during the blessing of the body and blood and was going to subtly sit back down, but, to her horror, those around her succumbed to pew pressure and were starting to stand up too. She was forced to stand up the rest of the way because she didn't want to be the only one still sitting.

Beer Pressure

Decisions made while under the influence of beer. Similar to the decisions made based on peer pressure, beer pressure may be something that is later regretted by the decision maker.

1. "I didn't want to smoke last night, but I was totally beer pressured into it and couldn't say no."

Noun

A man, or someone claiming to be a man, who suggests that he and other men should gather and have an outdoor fire (i.e., in a fire pit or outdoor fireplace) and consume alcoholic beverages. After receiving agreement from the group and prior to the fire being lit, the fire possum ceases communicating with the group. Thus he will play possum prior to the lighting of the fire and kills the event.

A fire possum will often be heard claiming the next day “I no gay?!” Closely related to an Irish Goodbye and clairavoidance.

Ernie sent up a flare that we should come over for some whiskey and fire, but as usual, he turned into a fire possum and no fun was had...
