nu metal is a genre of music , originated from heavy metal bands like iron maiden , ACDC black sabeth , then thrash came about with bands like metallica , nu metal is a subgenre and is more sad and doomish , it was founded with bands like koRn ( which rock) these bands werent as talented as the original heavy metal bands but made a sound that people liked . some people describe slipknot as nu metal but some true metalheads that i know think difrantly and sey there true metal but they might get confused by how heavy and how corey taylor shouts but the lyrics are the things which tell or not if they are nu metal. i think slipknit are a very good band think they are nu metal because they are nu (new) and original but the sound is to the likeing of thrash and screamo rockers who will not call it nu metal...well in my school , i on the other hand like nu metal, black metal ,goth rock and the thrash an hard rock an loads shit but nu metal bands like limp bizkit some people will call gay cos dey rap and loads do but koRn are the true founders of nu metel but since there first few albums they lost popularity and got just referd as hard rock to the metal heads and metal heads started to show a liking of them but not as much as thrash and screamo.
i will admit that nu metal bands sometimes arn't as talneted as original metal bands and the morden thrash but the sound they produced was to the liking of record producers an shit , but the rapcore defeintly wasn't liked by many metal heads.
slipknot to this day to anyone who is not a fan who either hates them or just dusn't listen will only no slipknot as a metal band and will criticise metal heads and just make fun of that and call them emo shit wich is gai , but for those metalheads who have a disliking for slipknot and do refer them as nu metal shit will not like them for this point but there are more points why they don't. true metal heads might not like them because they are sad and gothic ( sometimes gothic) and will call them emo ( they don't know whAT EMO MEANS) because the original heavy metal was a heavier take on rock and it was either normal rock n rollish lyrics or devil worshiping (slightly) and vilont which they love but the dark sadness edge was not to their liking.

Get the nu metal mug.The down-tuned nu metal sound is simply absurd. The strings are down so low they are virtually hanging off the neck, leaving a woolly, indistinct barrage of black noise. QUIT TRYING TO BE SOMEONE. Only kick ass rock like Motley Crue's which the entire Dr. Feelgood set was tuned down to D for added power.
Samples, DJs, scratching, and all that lameness: Please! Is it rock or dance? Aside from the sheer lack of creativity involved in samples, the whole vibe of rock 'n' roll with its jamming and unpredictability is removed in a sea of computer-generated mechanical perfection. And while DJ-ing may be quite a skill (debate that elsewhere), to class DJs as musicians is pretty laughable. Anyway, all that stuff is just nauseating. AND their use of loops is simply down to bad musicianship. Losers.
Stupidity: If you asked me to describe any nu metal band in ten words, intelligent would not be one of them. Not would it be if you gave me 1000 words. This manifests itself in the lyrics, where Durst et al, too dense to think of anything to actually say, simply swear for four minutes in a time in a bid to persuade us that they are hard. It's not working, mate.
Melody vs. rap: One problem with guitars tuned sub-sonically low… no one can sing over them. Besides which, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park and co. couldn't carry, let alone write, a tune to save their lives. So instead they rap, all very well except that rap depends on a) clever lyrics and b) diverse instrumentation. So with the same beat and essentially same feel, structure, and sound to every song, it is fair to say that all nu metal is in fact one song.
Lack of stage presence: It always startles me how much the members of Stain'd have in common with The Thunderbirds in their on stage movements.
Manufactured: Rock & roll is about rebellion. It is about independence, freedom, and attitude. So a band that is controlled, nay, manufactured by the record company is surely against the spirit of rock & roll. Indeed, it is not unfair to point out that manufactured rock & roll is an oxymoron -- a CONTRADICTION IN TERMS. In other words, these complete idiots posing as rock & rollers are puppets to the industry, simply a cynical, money-making scam which the record companies create and we are supposed to follow like sheep. Then MTV play them relentlessly, selecting the bands that suit the MTV, politically-correct, plastic and unthreatening (to them) way, at the same time rejecting other artists putting out quality product… the record companies and MTV work together to tell you what to listen to. Are you going to let them do that?

Get the nu metal mug.Well it all started when Anthrax teamed with Public Enemy with there song Bring the Noize in my opinion started the nu metal genre. Its a combination of rap and metal, probably not a very good idea from what I read. It may not be real metal, but it's better than regular rap, with guitars. Not a fan of it, but a few bands I don't have a problem with, Slipknot, Disturded, System of a down, Kittie. They may not be metal in you opinion, but there are talented.
