New York Minute

A New York minute is an instant. Or as Johnny Carson once said, it's the interval between a Manhattan traffic light turning green and the guy behind you honking his horn.

It appears to have originated in Texas around 1967. It is a reference to the frenzied and hectic pace of New Yorkers' lives. A New Yorker does in an instant what a Texan would take a minute to do.

Mitter

A man, usually in his mid 20s to early 30s, who has seen far too many days of service and too few days of respite. While noble in countenance and vigorous in spirit, busy days of indentured servitude to the machine have laid bare the soul of the mitter, reducing a once fine man into a belligerent tyrant. Special care must be taken when dealing with a mitter, lest ye be cut to the quick...

Dylan: "I heard that Brett is coming home for the holidays! Haven't seen him in a while... How's he been doing?"
Ben: "Terrible Dylan. I spoke to him the other day and he nearly bit my head off! Kept grumbling about his coworkers and all the drama at his job. Poor guy..."
Dylan: "Sounds like he's being a mitter. Ah well, let's make sure he has an enjoyable time off, eh?"
Ben: "You said it!"

Microsoft minute

A unit of time whose literal length is constantly changing due to rapid miscalculations of a computer wielding an operating system developed by Microsoft (i.e. Windows 95).

"Say, Benny! How long is it gonna take for this program to install?"
"Well Garrison, it says here just 3 more Microsoft minutes. You never know with those Microsoft minutes, though. It could be another six hours... but if we're lucky it'll only last one!"
