Rat Hunter prospects are selected from the most violent, tough, and criminally experienced men in the NYS prison system, who have the most incidents of violence such as Assaults on Sex Offenders, Assault on a Corrections Officer, and Assaults on Rats/Snitches, among other violent crimes. The purpose and agenda of a Rat Hunter, is to sniff out all Rats/Snitches, Sex Offenders, Etc, and brutally "Exterminate" them.
Rat Hunters sniff out and target all sex offenders ('Rapos'), and Rats (people who snitch/tell on other prisoners, or who ratted/snitched/told on their co-defendants to obtain a lighter sentence). Rat Hunters also extort Rapos' and Rats, and usually have a co-existing partnership with other gangs such as the Latin Kings and sometimes even the Aryan Brotherhood.
