A phrase describing the totality of terrain that a skier descends on in the mountains, including steepness, snow quality, and obstacles. It is typically described as having "too much" or "not enough." See shred bread for similar phrase.

That backcountry ski line with cliffs, breakable crust, and dense trees had a lot of gnar butter. Let's spread some gnar butter on the shred bread.

The best of the best! A phrase that combines voices of the past("totally gnarley"), the present ("totes") and the future (because it sounds like some shit Spock would say!) Not to be used lightly or over used. If it is not the best, it is not...totes gnar.
