Originally used to imply those who are attending prepatory schools, it is now interpreted by the modern generation to denote a certain denomination of the high school population which are resricted to the following fashions.

- Hollister
- Abercrombie and Fitch
- Lulu Lemon
- Uggs
- Leggings

Most preps belong to caucasian suburban families often higher in their social classes. They are often intensely concerned about their social status and do all in their power as to keep with the latest fashions, thus producing the inability to develop any diverse personality. They are often found mingling amoung their ilk at schools and enjoy the local country clubs and ridiculing those whom they deem inferior (those with a personality, those of poorer families and virtually any who do not conform to their social ideals.

Preps oppose emos and ghettos although seem to have some strange mutual understanding for the drug-abusing cliques at high school. It is assumed their lack of hostility is due to the drug clique's supplying the preps' drug habits.
Jimmy was appalled at how increasingly fast the girls at his school began jumping on the uggs fashion band wagon during the winter months, the prep fashion had taken it's grip.

Jimmy: "You can't find any individual girl at school, they all look alike!"

Bobby: "Too many Lulu Lemons headbands"

A prep is not someone who shops at Abercrombie, Hollister, and American Eagle. We shop at JCrew, Polo, Lilly Pulitzer, Neimans, CK bradley, eliza b., Vineyard Vines, Rainbow, and North Face. We carry bags from Herve Chapelier, longchamp, and chanel:Classic and Pretty. Pearls are neccesary and jewlery from tiffany is needed. If you cannot afford those brands you are not a prep. Usually we go to elite private schools and end up in ivy league colleges. A common misconception is that all preps are blond, definitly not true. Most of us preps vacation in Block Island, Martha's Vineyard, Cape Cod, Nantucket, and the Hamptons. Really preppy towns include: Greenwich CT, and Rye NY. Prep for life.
That girl is wearing a shirt from Hollister and she tells everyone that she is a prep, definitly not.

let's take this from someone who's lived in new england all her life.

a prep is usually a well-bred person who goes to prep school, boarding school, or private school, but not always. he/she can go to public school, too. they are pretty well-mannered and care alot about their academics. at least most of us do. some of us do come from a wealthy family. we're all usually involved in some sort of hobby such as field hockey, lacrosse, tennis, or my personal favorite, swimming, to be concerned about labeling anyone else. fashion is really important to us, or at least to me. we like looking nice, but we have no intention of flaunting or shoving price tags under everyone else's noses. my personal favorite places to shop are ralph lauren, lacoste, j.crew, sometimes lilly pulitzer and juicy couture. we like to wear juicy but we don't overdo it, vera bradleys are nice, and we love wearing our north face jackets in the winter, and occasionally we'll wear some burberry. but not all preps dress that way. some preps can dress in abercrombie & fitch, american eagle, and hollister co. and that doesn't make them any less than equal to those who do splurge a little. on vacations, new england "preps" do tend to spend weekends at the hamptons, in cape cod, or in martha's vineyard, but over here, that's just pure culture.

but you can ignore all that if oyu want because being a prep isn't about the school you go to, where you went this summer, or what you wear. it's all about the way you act and the definition of being well-mannered.
example of a prep: every prep is pretty much different. they don't all have the same personality, so therefore i pretty much say "screw the example" =

One who cares about personal appearance, shops at nice stores, and is generally more image-conscience then others. The term prep has been identified with bitches and sluts, which is a stereotype and is rarely true.

Originally derived from preparatory schools, prep has turned into a term people use to classify a certain group of people who act and dress a certain way. This does not mean that all preps are the same or that they are all bad or good.

Prep seems to be used as a derogatory term, when really it is just another name for a clique or group of people. I think of prep as either a meaningless term or a positive one.
Person One: Did you see that slut face bitch? She is such a prep!
Person Two: Maybe if you took the time to get to know her you wouldn't think of preps in such a negative way :)

What people think of when they hear prep-
snobby person who wears exclusively Coach, abercrombie and fitch, and hollister. Applies lipgloss 3253 tpms (times per millisecond) Snubs goths, losers, and emos. Sluts who wear mini skirts all the time.

What a true prep is.
well-educated, fairly affluent young people who are known for their neat, traditional, often expensive clothing style. Wears Polo, Lacoste, J.Crew, Lilly, DKNY, and Juicy Couture. A prep doesn't wear much makeup. A prep is rich because of money inherited from a long line of wealth. Watch Laguna beach and see true preps. Preps don't snub goths, losers, or emos. Preps just stick to their own group and have their own world.

They alwas have a polo on even if it's underneath another shirt and the color is always poped up. They love lilly pulitzer skirts and anything else like it. The popular people in school that think everyone else is jealous of them. They have a 'blond' IQ and no knowledge of anything that matters. They wear fugly clothes that they think everyone else likes. There all clones. There hobbies include flirting with all the other preps they see, spreading false rumors about the people they hate, stealing their parent's credit cards to go to the mall and put their parents in debt, a being heartless bitches. They have no idea what a day's work is and do not know how much a dollar's worth. They have no idea what trust is, and will turn on their friend if they like the same person as they do.
Example 1
Generic Prep 1: Hi Amanda! Look at my new shoes!
Generic Prep 2: Wow, Ashley! There the same shoes you have about 30 pairs of, but these ones look shinier!

Normal girl: She probably bought them with daddy's credit card.

Example 2:
Preppy dude 1: Hey Brad, nice new Hollister shirt!
Preppy dude 2: Thanks, I have a million of these.

Normal dude: Friggen' man whore.
