Self-aggrandizing term self-given by someone who can't get anyone to pay them for their prose on a consistent basis. Willing to stoop to bald-faced contrarianism for clicks/views.

"I'm starting to suspect that Ann is less of a "Freelance" Writer and more of a straight up hack. There's just no way she believes in her own bullshit, right?
