The intent is to express disdain for the situation - saying you have a dentist appointment when you clearly don't (because it's nighttime, or the weekend, or whatever) amplifies the effect and sarcasm. Synonymous with "this sucks, and I'm leaving".

Get the Purple Dentistmug. A mythical person who is said to exist in remote areas of China, but has never been sighted by a reputable source. If existent, he would fix teeth and make them look better. The evidence just simply isn't there to announce he's real.
