The actual word CLIT represents the number of lives each participant in the game has, so the 4 letters represent the 4 lives.

If the ball goes inbetween two players and is considered playable, you can either call a 50/50 where no one loses a life, or a PB. (personal battle) where the two said players match off against each other, who ever loses the mini game of clit takes a letter.
Any new comers must start on CLI.
