The "Make-Believe" Effect

A term for the sensation felt by audiences while watching films or television shows with poorly written plots. The "Make-Believe" Effect creates the feeling that, rather than being developed by a professional writing team, a film's storyline was thought up on the spot by children playing make believe (likely during school recess).

The effect has a variety of causes, such as plot holes, use of cliches, unconvincing acting, obvoius plot armor surrounding important characters, or events in the storyline that seem too convenient. This effect is most commonly experienced by individuals viewing blockbuster action, sci-fi, and superhero films.

Longterm exposure to the "Make-Believe" Effect can lead to a variety of symptoms, including:

- Sudden rise in blood pressure.
- Profound depression upon realizing that the American film industry has gone creatively bankrupt.
- Loss of balance.

- Deeply held resentment towards the actors, directors, and companies profiting from the creation of such poorly

written films.
- A sense of isolation among individuals who lack the ability to critically evaluate what they're watching.

Unsurprisingly, researchers have discovered that dumb people possess a natural immunity to the "Make-Believe" effect.

If you think you are experiencing longterm symptoms of the "Make-Believe" effect, experts recommend abstaining from films belonging to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, going outside, or reading books for a change you stupid oaf.

Believe It

In my honest opinion, the most annoying phase. It is used by the main character of the anime/manga Naruto, Naruto Uzumaki. The phase is more often used in the first arc of the original Naruto anime, but scares off people who haven't watched the anime. It is only used in the English dubs. Narutards use the phase at the end of sentences, like the hero of the anime, Naruto.

...Meanwhile, in an anime forum...

*Person 1 is posting on a Death Note area*

Person 1: I'm gonna be Kazekage! Believe it!

Person 2: STFU. Go back to your Naruto area.

Person 1 got warned once by Person 2. Reason: For being off-topic in the Death Note area. Please, if you want to join the Narutards, go to the Naruto area. There's role plays waiting to be joined.

Oregon State University fans who know that the Beavs kick mad PAC 10 ass. They also know that the ducks and their fans are whiny crybaby bitches who can't handle the fact that the beavs kick their asses every year!

True Believer

A person who earnestly believes in something, despite overwhelming scientific evidence to the contrary. Usually used as a derogatory term to imply the lack of critical thinking and/or intelligence on part of the true believer.

True Believers can range in their beliefs from the spiritual (Tarot, Astrology, Chi, etc.) to political (Holocaust Denial, Jews did WTC, JFK was killed by the government, etc.) to medical (Homeopathy, Vaccine causes Autism, etc.) and on to almost any other system.
