A poser is someone who pretends to be something they are not in order to look cool. Whether it be a techno poser, an emo poser, or even a lesbian poser, each one pretends to like that thing in order to be cool. Often, a poser will deny the fact that they are lying, and read/copy other people's shirts to prove it.

Someone who believe he/she can stay up the latest at night or often is only awake at night and sleeps in the day. However, his/hers belief is flawed because in reality he/she isn't staying up late at all.

Kai: "I stayed up until 9:00pm last night! I'm sooo nocturnal!"

Peter: "dude...9:00pm isn't late at all, you are such a nocturnal poser."

Sometimes spelled "poseur," a poser is someone who attempts to assimilate themselves into a particular group with the intent to be accepted, usually on a very superficial level. Often the individual has little knowledge of the group and may adjust their physical appearance, attitude, and philosophies accordingly, and use other tactics to convince members of the group into thinking that they are legitmate. Posers are generally of adolescent age, and usually outgrow this behavior in their adult years. Posers are found in every sub-culture, although they are commonly referenced within the punk, gothic and metal communities. Some bands are seen as "posers" due to their extremely commercial, accessible appeal, giving the impression that they are concerned with popularity and not musical creativity. The term is often incorrectly used to refer to someone who listens to popular music or is otherwise interested in popular social trends; it is not unless this person claims to be part of something while having no real familiarity with it that they should be labeled as such.

Poser: "Yeah, I'm totally into metal..."
Sub-culture tpye: "Really? That's cool. Like who?"
Poser: "Slipknot, Korn, Linkin Park, shit like that."
Sub-culture type: "Do you like any of the classic shit, like Venom, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Exodus, or underground bands like Morbid Angel, Darkthrone, Deicide, Obituary, stuff like that?"
Poser: "Who are they?"

Someone who doesn't appreciate all of the good music from all different genres for it's musicalness and musicality , but instead only likes one genre only and latches onto that one genre in it's entirety , it's look , it's clothing , it's fashion , it's lifestyle , all in a feeble attempt to be seen as cool and to act like a snob and pretend they are better than someone else who's not into their narrow , shallow , narcissistic , superficial , artificial coolness.

Besides if all you listen to is just one genre then you must be suffering from the delusion that everything in that one genre constitutes GOOD MUSIC which is impossible since every genre has it's share of good music and bad music regardless of how simple or complex the music is.You guys just don't want to have to think too hard (aw is thinking too hard?) and so you take the easy way out and latch onto one thing hard.Then you adopt the look and the fashion and the hairdo and the lifestyle and "pose" as that image and think that makes you all cool and badass.It doesn't.You're lame.Posers!
