Gift Grab

Share definition Flag
Invited to a birthday party, wedding, baby or bridal shower by someone rarely see or talk to just to bring a gift. Invite is usually by mass email. Not really friends with the person.
Receive mass email invite to someone's birthday party, whom I have not spoken to in a year. Tried to maintain contact or get together, but person too busy to get together, usually makes no effort. Told by friend when people who make no effort to call or stay in contact, but send out a mass birthday or shower e-vite, are gift grabbing.

Attend baby shower, mother to be barely acknowledges your presence, but happy to take the gift you spent your money on. Barely or does not say "thank you", receive a thank you note via email by the grandmother to be. Blatant gift grab.

power clashing

Share definition Flag
Combining clothing items that according to style etiquette do not go together. Doing this as a powerful figure will result in people unquestionably approving your fashion sense, and taking you in higher esteem.
> I'll tell you what I don't do: wear a striped tie with a striped shirt!

< It's called... power clashing. And I do it because I can.

Townie

Share definition Flag
In America, a townie is a person who has lived in a small town for his or her entire life. Often proud of that fact, townies take great interest in every detail of change in their home turf. Notable characteristics include: making fun of places they've never been (and probably will never go), remembering what used to be where that new building is, and getting fat after high school.
Townie: "Things haven't been the same around here since they built that hotel where the old hardware store used to be."
