Springfield Mall

A large, "urban" shopping mall located in Springfield, Virginia. Has been gradually abandoned in recent years do to preference for Pentagon City and Tysons, which have been deemed "less ghetto" by the general public. Springfield Mall is famous for having a "Hot Topic" and "Taco Bell Express," 97 Auntie Anne's pretzel stands, and an extensive parking garage used for drug deals after closing.

People, notably white people, who admit to shopping at Springfield Mall are usually shunned by the Northern Virginian community. Common excuses are:
"S-Springfield?...I thought this was Tysons!"
or
"I must have forgotten to take my medicine."
or
"Its OK, I'm 1/32 hispanic"

Springfield Mall is generally safe to frequent before sundown. However, NEVER go on Friday nights. EVER.

Mallcore

A bastardized genre of music in which the distorted guitars and agressive vocals of hardcore and heavy metal are dumbed down musically and then packaged to be marketable to angst-ridden teens. The name is derived from the "-core" system often used to name metal and punk varients such as hardcore, metalcore and emocore, and is so named because it targets your standard mall-going teens rather than real music enthusiasts, who nearly unanimously dismiss it as garbage. It can be characterized by chugging riffs based around basic (and often no) progression, and angsty yelled or rapped vocals. The lyrical content often complains about the unfairness of teenage situation, parents, school, or in rare cases politics. There is very little place for any musical innovation, and electronic effects and samples have taken the place of guitar solos and the like in 90% of the genre's bands.

dixie square mall

Famous shopping mall in Harvey, Illinois, a south suburb of Chicago. This mall opened in 1966, and closed in 1978. It remaind abandoned and decaying away from 1979 to at least 2006, when demolition began.

This mall was made famous when it was used in the Blues Brothers movie in 1979.

The story of why the mall has been standing for so long and why the demolition of 2006 may be on hold is a sordid tale that includes government corruption, crime, environmental law and a host of other interesting information.

Many urban exploreres have visited and photograped the Dixie Square Mall in the last 25 years.

Mall Grab

A mall grab is a way of holding your skateboard with the grip tape facing your pants, and gripping it by the trucks. It is called mall grabbing because the skate community has decided that people that hold their board like that are probably posers and carry it more than they ride it, so they carry it around a “mall” as an accessory, hence the “mall” grab. You may be wondering though why this is frowned upon as it is very obviously the most fucking comfortable way of holding the board. I’m going to get crucified for saying this but it’s true. “BUh bUh yOULL lOoSeN tHe tRuCkS” the trucks are literally shaped like fucking handles I’ve seen skate shops use trucks as door handles it is fucking PERFECT for holding but Noooooo we have to make fun of everyone that hold it in the most comfortable way because making things harder for ourselves and putting down anyone that speaks up against it is the way to fucking go because you’re all toxic gatekeepers.

Normal person: hey mall grabbing is a great convenient way to hold the board, sure it rubs against my pants but so does half the other ways of holding my board!

Mallcore

A modern form of music, influenced, but wholly separate from Heavy Metal that incorporates rap, funk, simplified song structures, and subject matter geared towards the teens and youth of America. Topics often include alienation, parental abuse, and "the pain inside." Watch for simple rhyme patterns and a general lack of innovation. The oversaturation of the market with mallcore in analogous to the takeover of glam rock in the late 80s and early 90s as record companies scrambled to make a quick profit. The roots of mallcore go back to Anthrax's "I'm the Man" as well as Faith No More's "Epic." These visible hits which fused metal and rap inadvertently caused a tidal wave. Bands such as Korn and such spinoffs soon began to take over the market with detuned and substandard products. As the style of music overtook a naive fanbase, many bands, formerly true to heavy metal, began to lean towards mallcore tendencies. These bands, such as Metallica, In Flames, and others made their sound more accessible by simplifying their work and adding aspects of electronica, whispered vocals, simple chugging riffs, and taking focus off of lead guitars. This style of music as of late has been decreasing in popularity, as record companies have opted to move on to other styles of music. Most likely the style will experience a revival in the next decade as bands realize they have no money, having spent it in their prime. Revival tours and reunions will be common, and the pain of the past will be experienced once again.

The new In Flames album will definitely be mallcore.
