Linux is a free operating system like free UNIXes. The most popular is Ubuntu(still), yet the even more stable Memphis Linux is what you really should have. The Russians and Chinese prefer Linux over Windows all the time. Most servers is either Ubuntu Server or CentOS. The WWW runs 60% Linux servers, because less viruses.

Linux is an operating system that has a near religious following akin to Macintosh users. Devotes who use Linux constantly claim that only people who know what they are doing use it while also saying how stable and useful it is. They of course often forget that when only highly trained computer experts use the tool with limited deviation that the system will appear far more stable because of the lack of permutative chaos it receives as input.
Linux users often go out of their way to find flaws with Microsoft systems. This is because they find the corporate desire to protect intellectual property as a hindrance to their technical tasks. Many of the crashes that these technologists speak of are related to their attempt in dominating the system beyond its design. It’s akin to them beating their head against a brick wall and then telling the rest of us it hurts and wishing the wall would be removed.
Simply put, Linux or Unix is for technical people who want to have near absolute control of the system. In advanced sciences of all types this is often necessary so Linux has it’s place for advanced studies and technical development that really is unable to be beat by Windows because of the corporations desire to protect its intellectual property which acts as a road block for highly technical users.
Many Linux devotees also tend to be control freaks, which is necessary in complicated systems in order to maintain order. If the chaos hamsters were ever let loose into the system they would soon find that their stable system was highly unprotected and flawed in ways they had never imagined.

A very stable operating system for people who want to run a server also fine for the average user. Is harder to use than windows but its worth it. Yes linux is behind when it comes to games, software and drivers. That is due to people not knowing what Linux is, also due to the fact that linux is free therefore the company does not make much money and due to lack of software developers. Simply imagine this, a operating system that doesnt crash and that preforms very well. If we piad for our Linux distrobutions and more software developer made programs, games and drivers for linux then we would acheive this. Alot of windows power users or complete morons have choosen to "bash" linux, please do not believe them, you have to be a moron to believe such crap.
Windows is a decent operating system with alot of software and alot of drivers for hardware but LINUX is more stable and preforms better and costs much less.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Short term for GNU/Linux. This operating system is created to be stable, fast, and secure. It comes in different flavors "distros" to suit everybody's needs. Help is available everywhere except from the Windows idiot. Linux is a made as open-source to allow people to edit linux itself to suit their own needs. Linux will only crash if you are too attach to windows to let go of it.
Windows in the other hand is EXPENSIVE! Windows comes with little good software, and extra applications will cost you big time. That nice noise they have when you boot is important, cause you'll have to hear that alot in one day.
Has different window managers and different desktops for different people to use. You could even make you're own window manager or desktop.

I can play Unreal Tournament with 1024x768 highest quality with a stable 15 fps on my Intel Celeron 500mhz, 196 mbs of ram, geforce 2 420 computer while on Linux. Windows, I can only run it with 640x480, lowest quality, with only about 8 fps.

A UNIX operating system that will run on basically any computer hardware out there (even alpha). LINUX is one of the most stable operating systems ever created and has been known to run for years before needing a reboot.

A half-finished piece of shit for an operating system that's a pain in the ass to install, a pain in the ass to use, and a pain in the ass to remove from the hard drive.
On the bright side, Linux makes an excellent disk partitioning tool.
If Linux was designed primarily for network servers, then it doesn't make any sense to market it as a desktop replacement, especially if the applications suck, and hardware detection is nonexistent.
I wasted half of a 14 CDRs of a 25-CD spindle on 9 variants of Linux. 6 of them didn't work because the computer shut down when the installation detected my video card. 2 variants wouldn't detect my soundcard, modem, USB scanner, and USB drive. Driver installation didn't do jack shit to solve the problem. The ninth variant detected my modem and USB drive, but kept playing this wierd, chaotic, repeating tune through my soundcard. Unfortunately, there were no sound drivers to resolve the issue.
Windows 98 beta detected all my hardware, and driver installation was a cakewalk.
Thank GOD I bought my CDRs cheap from Big Lots. But still that was a waste of CDs that I could have filled with MP3s and the best freeware programs available for Windows.
May the Linux programmers burn in Hell.
