jump the shark

The precise moment when you know a program, band, actor, politician, or other public figure has taken a turn for the worse, gone downhill, become irreversibly bad, is unredeemable, etc.; the moment you realize decay has set in.
Tom Cruise jumped the shark the moment he jumped Oprah's couch.

The Shatner Effect

A cinematic term when in a movie or television program, an actor or actress removes their top, or appears without it for no apparent reason.
The scene from "Swordfish", where Halle Berry moves her book to show her boobs for no reason is a classic case of The Shatner Effect.

Holy Wood was a concept album released by Marilyn Manson on 2000 after the Columbine High School massacre and serves as their rebuttal at the accusations leveled at them. Their frontman has described it as "a declaration of war".

The record made numerous allegories to pop culture history to show how everyone had a participating role in Columbine: From Abraham Zapruder to the JFK Assassination, from the Beatles' White Album to the Charles Manson murders and from the Crucifixion to the Dead Rock Star celebrity worship phenomenon, Manson left no stone unturned to give america a righteous ass-kicking.

Notable themes:
1.Guns, God and Government - rightwing America's main obsession that, arguably, fucked Klebold and Harris up more than any 'rock' or 'metal' album.

2.Celebritarianism - a word coined by Manson to describe a devotion to celebrity and celebrity culture. In the album it is a religion that canonizes dead celebrities into saints in the same way the crucifixion canonized Jesus Christ into a superstar messiah and celebrity. In effect, the crucifixion is the root cause of shit like reality TV, Jersey Shore, TMZ and Harris and Klebold's desire to become famous by murdering people.

Holy Wood was never a commercial success and received mixed reviews from music journalists who said the band's artistic pretensions overshadowed the powerful lyrical indictment contained in it. Despite this, many people view it as the band's finest hour.
Kerrang Magazine: ...There has still not been as eloquent and savage a musical attack on the media and mainstream culture as Manson achieved with Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death).

Me:If you thought what Manson said about Columbine in Michael Moore's documentary was incisive, you should see how Holy Wood throws his detractors hypocrisies right back into their faces.

The Shaggy Defence

The defence favored by the protagonist in Shaggy's song "It Wasn't Me". Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, he maintains his innoncence by simply saying it was somebody else. Also liked by R. Kelly, O.J. Simpson, and Phil Specter
Person A: Oh, man, I just killed 2 dozen people. There were over 50 witnesses. My shirt was off and everyone saw my tattoo that says "My name is Jeffrey Dahmer". What should I do?
Person B: Say it wasn't you.
Person A: Oh, the Shaggy Defence...hadn't thought of that.

The Shawcross

The Shawcross is the entity that eats your food out of the fridge or biscuit cupboard. Some believe he exists only in legend, however equally others say that they knew they had half a fruit cake in the cupboard which has now mysteriously disappeared.
In some cultures, The Shawcross is also blamed for the loss of one sock out of a pair - especially when you know you DEFINITELY put two in the washing machine.
John "WTF ! I had half a Christmas cake in the bread tin which I've been looking forward to all day... Have YOU eaten it Tim you fucker??"
Tim "No - maybe we've been visited by legendary food thief... The Shawcross!!!"
John "Grrrrrrr!!"

The Shadow

The Shadow is a collection of serialized dramas, originally in 1930s pulp novels, and then in a wide variety of media. Details of the title character have varied across various media, but he is generally depicted as a crime-fighting vigilante with psychic powers posing as a "wealthy, young man about town". One of the most famous adventure heroes of the twentieth century, The Shadow has been featured on the radio, in a long running pulp magazine series, in comic books, comic strips, television, serials, video games, and at least five motion pictures. The radio drama is well-remembered for those episodes voiced by Orson Welles.
Introduced as a mysterious radio narrator by David Chrisman, William Sweets, and Harry Engman Charlot for Street and Smith Publications, The Shadow was developed fully and transformed into a pop culture icon by pulp writer Walter B. Gibson. The character would go on to become a major influence on the subsequent evolution of comic book superheroes, in particular, Batman.
The Shadow debuted on July 31, 1930, as the mysterious narrator of the Street and Smith radio program Detective Story Hour. After gaining popularity among the show's listeners, the narrator became the star of The Shadow Magazine on April 1, 1931, a pulp series created and primarily written by the prolific Gibson.
Powers/Abilities: The Shadow possesses incredible physical abilities. He possesses astonishing reflexes and is an incredible marksman with a gun. He also has incredible muscular control and can slip his body through the bars of a prison cell like a contortionist or can actually distort and alter his very facial features at will by manipulating his facial muscles. He can also survive for hours without air and was also ambidexterous (capable of using both hands). He is regarded as highly experienced in various disciplines of hand to hand combat as well.
His greatest power is his ability to “cloud men’s minds”. He can hypnotize people instantly so that he can move as an invisible shadow. He can also hypnotize people so they forget things or to command them to perform certain acts (he once forced a criminal to write a detailed account of his past crimes). The Shadow wears a fire opal ring known as a girasol on his hand which he uses to focus his hypnotic abilities. He is an expert in many different languages and is also a master ventriloquist (he can project or “throw” his voice).
He is also a master of disguise and has been known to impersonate others, even fooling their friends and family members. The Shadow is apparently an expert aircraft pilot and skilled in infiltration and information gathering techniques due to his experience as an intelligence agent.
He wields a pair of .45 pistols and employs a fleet of automobiles and aircraft in his various operations.

Pet the Shark

"Petting the shark" refers to giving a woman a hand-job. This is due to the fact that at most aquarium shark petting tanks, they require you to pet a shark with the first and middle finger, the same two fingers used to finger your girlfriend.

Side Note: A woman's vagina also closely resembles that of a sharks brain, doubling the connotation.
Yeah, I'm totally about to pet the shark.
