Cowshanty

A hybrid genre of music mixing classic American country (ie Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, maybe even as far up as Garth Brooks,) with traditional pirate Sea Shanties. Traditional instruments of the genre include Accordion, Banjo, Hurdy-Gurdy, Guitar, Upright Bass, Drums, and Fiddle. Lyrical content includes a broad range of topics such as drinking songs, love songs, songs about exploration and pioneering on both land and sea, songs about horses, songs about seahorses, and much else. Examples of popular bands include Captain Sheriff, Yeharrr, Star and Crossbones, the Rum Runners, the Salty Spitoons, and Sixshooter Blunderbuss.

My favorite Cowshanty song is “Ode to my Rum Bottle” by the Dusty Dinghies, off their album “Wagons to ye Starbord Side, Partner-Matey.”
