Someone who tries to be something that they aren't, esp. when it is at that time considered popular to be part of that specific group or 'clique'. Generally used for fake punks, goths, or anything associated with rock music.

Hilary Duff pretends to be a punk, when her brand of music is quite recognizably Disney brand pop music.

Poser kid: I totally love Green Day! I am like their biggest fan!
Real thing: Cool, what's your favorite song?
Poser kid: Boulevard Of Broken Dreams. Oh my gosh, that is like my theme song.
Real thing: Okay then... do you know any other songs?
Poser kid: Um... isn't that their first hit? They're new.
Real thing: *shakes head and walks away, disgusted*

poser punk

An individual who thinks that because they skateboard and neglect to wash their long greasy hair and listen to Pop groups like "blink 182" and "Sum41" that they are indeed what is known as a punk. When really they know nothing of anarchy or the whole punk revolution of the late 1970's.

Person 1: Look at the stinky skateboarder, he thinks he's so hardcore.
Person 2: Yeah, what a poser punk.

A Nirvana Poser is somebody who tries to fit in with Nirvana fans and fails terribly at knowing the simplest, well known song Smells Like Teen Spirit. Nirvana is a Grunge band that was super popular around the 80's and came out with 22 albums. The lea singer/guitarist is Kurt Cobain. Not Curt Cobain.
