The reason inmates refer to being transported to or from prison as catchin chain is because when an inmate is transported to prison or another facility you are loaded onto a bus and are handcuffed and chained by your legs and your waist. You are commonly chained to a fellow inmate and sit next him or her for the duration of your ride.
