A rural town nestled in the back country of San Diego. It borders Riverside county line alongside Aguanga-Anza & Temecula being the closest city for shopping necessities & services. There is also a small community of families, farmers/ranchers & an senior citizen mobile home community.
There used to be a somewhat flourishing golf resort with restaurant & convenience mart all closed down (except convenience store) since the pandemic leaving no choices on where to eat unless you drive back to Temecula or towards Julian. A bunch of wineries and a bar exist only open on the weekends and 2-3 restaurants along the road that are limited & saturated by locals best bet is to go back to Temecula for quality food that won’t break your wallet.
The area is predominantly White, with few minorities being Hispanic & Native Americans (surrounded by reservations), among very few others.
That said, it’s far away from civilization and folks are either friendly or not. Honestly needs a lot more diversity, unless you don’t mind the unbidden prejudice, especially by the oldest folks who haven’t a clue on how to be a good human. (Hide using Christianity as scapegoat)

A rogue police department who do the bidding of the always reelected Awful Valley Town Council and the current mayor; this police department harasses one Disabled Veteran with surveillance vehicles, undercovers, paid snitches in his own family, and paid snitches as neighbors. They like to hide as "Awful Valley Police" but are really "San Bernardino County Sheriffs." One of the main sources of income are the 8-12 drones they fly at night to bust people when they don't know they are being watched. The Town keeps approving new businesses to be built that will fail; this town is littered with empty warehouses and stores, but why move into those when there is so much land to build on? These empty buildings are often filled with evangelical churches, sometimes with one new church across from another. Then, these corrupt churches snag the hopeless and helpless to do their bidding for their church, like work for free. If you value personal freedoms and a steady income, don't move here.
When I put in a missing person's report on my now deceased Wife (date of death, 9/9/20), in Awful Valley, CA, the attending Awful Valley Sheriff/San Bernardino County Sheriff said, "call us if she shows up;" yet, they did not notify me with a visit, or a phone call, instead I received a letter from the Sheriff/Coroner a week and a day later.

Get the CA mug.Basically, the devil wouldn't live here. I highly would NOT recommend young girls to take public transportation in this city. I was sexually assaulted twice (once on the bus and once at the bus stop). Two grown men came up to me on the bus and gave me a flyer saying that they are looking for an "investor." I also have been harassed and stalked multiple times living here. Men would ask me if I need a ride. Another time, a random man kept telling me that he could get me a job. Plus, there was a serial rapist near the college that I attended (Bakersfield College). Thankfully, he was caught. It is affordable but there are simply too many sexual predators. There are way too many homeless people. In addition, it gets super hot in the summer. The air quality is trash. It takes away years from your life. You can save a lot of money by living here but just make sure you live in the good areas. Buy a gun. Know how to use it. People frequently steal amazon packages. Make sure you get a ring camera because people may try to break into your home. Do not accept rides from anyone! Don't live in east Bakersfield. That's basically the ghetto. You're welcome!
