Virtue Signal Sarah

A person, usually a white woman, who presents themselves as ultra liberal on social media, self-identifies as a vegan, leftist, feminist (loves labels), usually has lots of tattoos as it is part of their curated woke / progressive / punk-rock identity (costume). These people are very active on IG and are constantly posting and reposting virtue signals to compensate for not knowing who they are or what they stand for, living for affirmations from like-minded friends.

These people are so thirsty for that dopamine rush of a ‘view’ or ‘like’ that they rarely check sources and vet what they’re actually posting, and often repost things that aren’t factual, or in-line with progressive ideology. But do not dare call them out on it. These people will challenge authorities, governments, the police, via Instagram, but if you challenge THEM to be better, they will get flustered, break down, name call, and un-follow you. Mind you, these people are only "activists" online. They almost never participate in real life direct action.

These people tend to pursue careers as social workers or therapists, and are very public about it — also part of their woke ensemble to "do good in the world (because I'm a good person and I need you to know that)". The truth is that they are insecure and immature people who are grasping for identity. They are usually privileged in that they are white and receive financial support from their parents, well past their 20's and 30's.

That Virtue Signal Sarah (VSS) re-posts more BLM stuff than all my Black friends combined! We get it — you want us to think you're not racist. Ughh... just stop.

Everyone: Uh, ok... Where is that in the books and movies?
J. K. Rowling: Nowhere, i just made it so.
Everyone: Why are you saying this only now? Back in 2007 (when the last Harry Potter book came out) only one state had gay marriage legalized. Don't you think the LGBTQ community would have liked your support more back then?
J. K. Rowling: ...
Everyone: ...
J. K. Rowling: Well... but now he is SUPER gay.
Everyone, to each other: man, virtue signalling like this is just so pretentious.

Virtue Signalling

A scheming, disingenuous act of kindness and selflessness to show ones solidarity with a cause, such as volunteering for CAMHS, all to boost ones image and reputation, rather than to help the cause. It is commonly weaponised by politicians and used in debates to appease the majority.
Synonyms: I have no life, I'm a cuck, please give me attention, stop mansplaining
Antonyms: I'm smart, I'm sexy, I'm not a 28 year old living in his mother's basement, I've got a nice schlong

Examples of virtue signalling:
- Jeremy Corbyn introducing his pronouns during a speech on Pink News
- Simon Cowell allowing a mediocre comedian to progress to the finals of Britain's Got Talent because he was disabled
- 18 year old college students stating their obvious gender pronouns in their Instagram/Twitter bios
- Wokeness - wokeness is virtue signalling, and virtue signalling is wokeness
- Michelle Williams' irrelevant and unnecessary speech at the Golden Globe Awards
- Refuting the scientific reality of biological sex

Advocating a political or philosophical position, and/or taking up a public cause, from a position of vanity, for the primary purpose of demonstrating your conformity with fashionable pop culture values.

Angela's sudden advocacy for the local pet shelter was mostly an exercise in public relations and virtue signalling. She had never much cared for dogs and cats before, but she instinctively understood teary-eyed public support for defenseless animals generally said something good about her as a person.

Virtue Vetting

The process by which any individual's accomplishments and/or creative output is deemed valid based on the virtue - or perceived virtue - of said individual. Inversely, to make eligible for censorial callout and shutdown any work or creative output of any individual deemed unvirtuous.

The painting was removed from the exhibit after the artist, who had indeed endured a troubled past, failed to survive the virtue vetting of a group of highly motivated and vocal museum supporters, who claimed to be offended by the work's inclusion in the show.
