Picking the fly shit out of the pepper

1. The act of being nit-picky to a ridiculous degree.
2. To meticulously analyze minutia.

pining for the fjords

Used to describe a dead person or animal as a way of convincing somebody that the corpse is not, in fact, dead.

First used by Michael Palin in reference to a dead Norweigan Blue parrot in the famous Monty Python Sketch.
"...And when I bought it not half an hour ago, you assured me that its lack of movement was due to it being tired and shagged out after a long squawk."
"It's probably pining for the fjords."
"Pining for the fjords, what kind of talk is that?"

Picking out curtains

A point in a relationship when you're so close with the person you're dating that moving in together is all but certain. You literally begin picking out curtains for your future apartment together.

Matt: I have no idea...we were picking out curtains and everything...

pindingas

from el Peru: left up in the air, abandoned to uncertainty, waiting and no news arrives, no resolution to a very "pregnant" situation
My man said we would meet for lunch and then have a quickie today. He never showed, he never called, he left me en pindingas!
So I called my "supplier," pleading, "Bring me something to cheer me up!" "Honey, I am in the car and on my way!he said. I am still awaiting his arrival and he doesn't pick up his cell. Will he arrive or not? He has left me en pindingas.

out of your cotton-picking mind

A condition where you are not thinking properly. Not in your normal state, not working with your normal faculties. Out of your gourd, feeling crazy enough to do something you would never normally do. Generally considered to be related to the odd behavior of heat stroke victims or victims of exhaustion, conditions that people who would pick cotton for a living in very hot or very stressful conditions might end up suffering.
"What did you do THAT for? Are you out of your cotton-picking mind?"

"He's babbling like an idiot, like he's out of his cotton-picking mind."

picking up what you're putting down

Understanding what the person is saying. Reaching an agreement.
"Do you understand?"
"Yes"
"Are you picking up what I'm puttting down"
