TABU is a British Army acronym which dates from around World War II. It stands for Typical Army Balls Up and is used in a similar way and in the same context as the American SNAFU. It describes the things that shouldn’t go wrong but invariably do do.

Over the course of time, however, the meaning changed, notably during the Korean War. During this conflict the Americans were in charge of logistics for all allied troops and were told to ensure that American troops were supplied before their allies. What was meant by this was that American troops should have ammunition and essentials before these were supplied to their allies. In fact what happened was that the STRAC REMFS whose duty this was decided it was more important to supply American troops with Coca Cola that the allies with ammunition. In this case TABU came to mean Typical American Balls Up.

A complex chart consisting of dates, page numbers, topics, etc. that math and science teachers enjoy making you do. Your teacher will harp at you to write down the table of contents every day and threaten your grade if you don't. It is intended to be useful, but for the most part, it's not.
Teacher, glaring at your paper: Have you done the table of contents for today?
You: N-n-no?
Teacher: *eyebrows raise* You have to do the table of contents every day! Minus 10 classwork points.

Tabarnak

Swear word used in the Canadian French slang language, it originated from the word "tabernacle", a cabinet in Christian churches containing what is needed to celebrate the Eucharist. It is the equivalent of "fuck" in its variety of uses, as it can be used as a noun, an adverb or simply an exclamation. It is commonly used as a way to amplify an emotion, most often a negative one, meaning it can be a form of insult.
- Mon tabarnak! / You fucker! (Noun, insult)
- C'était beau en tabarnak! / It was fucking beautiful! (Adverb) ~ Here we can see the use for either a positive emotion or a sarcastic one.
- Tabarnak! / Fuck! (Exclamation)
- Il était en beau tabarnak ~ Il était en colère. / He was fucking pissed. ~ He was angry. (Noun / Adverb) ~ Here, "tabarnak" is used as a noun (colère), but can only be translated to an adverb. If we translate it word by word: He was in pretty fuck.
