pronounced em-el-kay-eeng. the process in which radical historical figures are whitewashed and watered down of their radical politics in order to present them as figures of leadership and change without their revolutionary ideals; done primarily by liberals

Martin Luther King Jr. is a prominent example; he showed leanings to an anti-capitalist (socialist) world past the one plagued by a imperialism and white supremacy, but liberals love to tout him as their hero, unaware of his actual stances with regards to liberalism.
