The amount of five dollars.
The term combines buck with nickel. Essentially a dollar multiplied by the numerical value of a nickel 1X5 = 5. Hence, a buck (one dollar) nickel (five cents). The colloquial term has a negative connotation indicating the sheer minuscule value of five dollars, usually used as an insult towards impecunious individuals.
