goth. what is . it . to be goth...? cemetery black with grey accesories? A loathing to live and be alive; ourself not understanding others ? Cliches are just that. Do I drive a hearse, with...blackwall tires..? and make my own absinthe? Or am I an artist, musician, poet whom cares not for an..y.thing save for whatever be the moments spur? As popeye said I yam what i yam..leave me alone to do and think as I will. I am the subculture of a subculture that prescribes and doesn't subscribe to any..thing most do. I am myself on my own path, as it were, in life. Do I wear clothing of a year born one two three or, damn it all...TEN years popular before my birth?! Nunya bizzness nor excitement of any form, for I am all that is dark and pretentious and forlourn. I am of an age that didn't exist, I am gen X. i AM TRYING TO FORGIVE THOSE WHOM HURT ME SO in my own way. By the way I would appreciate it for you to leave me alone. leave me alone with this, this instrumentally foreshadowing debacle of selfrighteousness! The arrogant and insignificant self-virtue I claim 'tis my own 'an none other. So I ask "what is goth?" mistaken for a bunch of troubled metal head teenagers who are obsessed with death and suicide. this is totally wrong and is just some stupid steriotype given to them by dumbasses such as townies. goths are normally just normal people who like to dress in their own kind of style, rather than the mundane crap we see everyday. goths are quite confident and are never afraid to laugh at themselves. goths normally have a open mind to alot of things instead of being closed mind twats who wont try anything else but what every1 else is doing

wannabe goth

A kid or teenager who tries to be a goth, but gets the wrong end of the stick. Usually seems to think it revolves around metal, Marilyn Manson, Slipknot, and other similar bands, wearing as much make-up as possible and hating your parents.

goth vs. emo vs. chav vs. detroit ghetto

Emo is basically the bottom of the food chain here.
Emos hate themselves, goths hate everyone else.
A Chav is a british wigger, they are also recognizably stupid.
A Detroit Ghetto is a black person who carries more weapons and drugs then his coat can fit.
Goths are all black. Emos are goths with circus colors and an estrogen overdose. Goths are actually bigger life haters then emos but they have balls and deal with shit.
In the united kingdom Chavs and Emos are rivals

The Chav is picking on the Emo and a goth comes by, so the Chav thinks 'Oh, another Emo' so the Chav attempts to pick on the Goth who takes out a half inch syringe and proceeds to beat the living hell out of the Chav. After the Chav is dead from pinstab wounds the Emo praises the Goth like they are holy or something. Then the Goth who is totally annoyed fills the syringe with yellow asbestos liquid and leaves a small air pocket. Then says it's Heroin and sends the Emo off who dies several seconds later. Then the Detroit Ghetto guy walks in and then opens his coat which a rocket launcher is hidden in takes out a bag of cocaine but is actually sweet and low. In the end the Goth is dead and the Detroit Ghetto goes back home and then a team of fat and vice cops investigate and 6 months later they can only speculate that it was a homicide.

Goth is essentially every other music scene (indie, rave, etc.), just a bit spookier and dramatic. The actual goths (ie, not the high school kids) are usually college students or average people with dayjobs. Many work in the tech field as it affords them flexibility with their appearance. They typically have macabre or devious senses of humor (yes, they do laugh - a lot.) and are subject to the same fallacies, issues, and qualities that other humans are. Most are not cutters.

Just like other scenes, the goth scene is extremely misrepresented by the youth who either misappropriate the genre or simply don't quite "get it." They often put a public and very misleading face on the scene and many goths (such as myself) rush to defend the scene, as flawed as it might be, for it is something that happens to bring much joy to many people. The illusion of uniqueness is just that. But then again, deep down, we're all different in some way, but there's still no harm in doing what you can to set yourself apart if you find value in that.

Still, much of the older goth scenesters do not completely dismiss the younger generations. They might deride them, but hope they will expand their horizons. Conversely, you will find older goths who enjoy the more commercial acts, for no other reason than simple personal taste.

One final thing: Most goths don't just listen to music associated with that genre. Most will branch out. Some listen to Punk or Techno, some even listen to Jazz or Motown. The final idea of being a goth is to simply be yourself, even if you're not wearing black.

We still reserve the right to make fun of emo kids because we know we look silly. They haven't figured it out yet.
