An amorphous term coined by those who support gun control. Applied to semi-automatic weapons that cosmetically resemble fully automatic firearms.

When gun manufacturers began making these so-called assault weapons without the things that made them look menacing, the gun grabbers cried that a "loophole" was found. Well, duh...they would be the last to see that the changes were cosmetic in nature.

assault with a deadly weapon

If you are not being threatened with violence then pointing a gun at the other person would constitute assault with a deadly weapon (felony) and brandishing a firearm. If you didn't have a concealed carry permit, you would also be guilty of carrying without a permit (first offense misdemeanor or felony, second offense felony). You would be arrested, lose your gun, go to jail, probably for more than a year, and lose your right to keep and bear arms. Exact penalty would depend on plea bargaining, the quality of your attorney and what the judge had for breakfast.

Some fool starts yelling at you after a fender bender and you pull out your glock and he calls the cops it will probably be assault with a deadly weapon.

A term for a rifle made up by the media to make rifles sound scary. Try putting the word assault in front of anything that could hurt you when the wrong person uses it. Now it sounds scary, right? You're on your way to becoming a news reporter.

Sexual Assault

Any act consisting of physical contact of a sexual nature without consent. This can include touching, groping, licking, oral sex, or sexual intercourse. Also according to many state laws any of these acts committed while one or more parties is under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or loss of consciousness can be classified as sexual assault, as these factors inhibit ones decision making ability, and therefore consent cannot be established. Sexual assault can be male on female, male on male, female on male, or female on female.

Me and Mandy were drinking at the party, we ended up having sex, and I even gave her a ride home in the morning, but now shes claiming sexual assault! The worst part is that we were drunk so it doesn't matter that she said yes! and now I'm Fucked!!!
