To abandon cautious, conservative, or restrained behavior in favor of taking bold, radical, or unconventional actions. This phrase is derived from the idea of switching from an energy-saving mode to a high-performance mode in machines or devices, metaphorically applied to human behavior to signify a shift towards more extreme or daring activities.
