Indie-Stoner

The stoner is a girl/boy who likes indie rock ( modest mouse, cage the elephant, earlier foster the people, death cab for cutie, ect..) and who smokes cannabis on a regular basis. an indie-stoner might also consumer physchedelics as well, such as LSD or salvia. you wont find many of them, and when you do they are kind of withdrawn, unless the topic up for conversation comes to music. they usually wear a unbuttoned button up flannel shirt for a "coat", with some band t-shirt with an unpopular or unknown band to most underneath of that. for pants they usually wear faded blue/black jeans with or without holes in them. they usually really like collecting and listening to vinyl, and often get high/trip while listening to their favorite indie bands. they rarely drink and party, and don't mind smoking or having a trip with themselves. also in general there not very social people. they also rarely drink and think pot is waaay better than alchahol. they ussually hate rap, but dont have a problem with the people that listen to it. the few friends that they have, when they have drugs, they'll always make an offer to their friends to take them with them. they also are ussually in good shape (not fat) and have hair down to their shoulder or the middle of their neck. they ussually wont talk to strangers unless they are spoke to, and because of this they often have trouble making friends. also, they avoid big social situations at all costs.

First Indie (or real indie)

Indie is a shortform of "independent"; it is often used to describe a person or a group of persons who in their life style, taste and outlook take a rather sophisticated and Bohemian stand against the mainstream.

Indie as an avantgarde discourse began spreading in the beginning of the twenty-first-century and has not yet reached its climax, but a new parellel, and even more "Indie" development is beginning to evolve slowly especially in Scandinavia: "First Indie"

"First Indie" is a discursive combination and contraction of two concepts; "First mover" and "Indie".

The "First Indie" is extremely independent in its nature, lifestyle and perception of the world and people around him, but what differs him/or her from the "old indie" is that he doesn't see the concept of distancing himself from the mainstream as a goal in itself, but rather "First Indie" uses the mainstream media to his own advantage to set his subjective agenda.
Person 1: Why did you join that television show - it is so mainstream?

Person 2 "First indie (or real indie)": I know it is, that's why I joined it.

Person 1: What!!! You have a black hat - how could you do that, I thought you were sooooo indie?

Person 2 (first indie): Well, that's not up for me to define - but I wanted to use the mainstream media for my own individual(idealistic) purposes. I mean if you want to communicate with people who don't belong to your normal sphere, it's a rather good idea to try to go ahead and cross the sphere, right?

Person 1: That's just so indie....

Indie Obscurity Laws

Indie Obscurity Laws (also known as IOLs) are the laws that help indie kids choose their music.

1. Band must be heard of by NOBODY.
2. When heard of by - even by just one person - they are considered mainstream and no good.
3. If ever played on the radio, the band is no longer indie and must be called "overplayed" or "overrated".
4. Must have a ridiculous name (preferably something foreign) like Leidaek, or The Fisher's Leaf, or even Killing All Pigeons.
5. Does not have to be real music. Can be random videogame noises and mumbling.
6. Anybody who doesn't follow these strict laws, has awful, mainstream, commercialized music taste.
Person: Oh, yeah. I like Metro Station, Forever the Sickest Kids, and Owl City.

Indie: Omg. Ur music taste is the most overplayed, unoriginal, crappy taste ever. Go die in a hole or listen to some decent music like -insert indie band name here-.

Person: Wow. You must follow the Indie Obscurity Laws religously.

Indie: Hellz yeah. God forbid me listen to the mainstream crap that you listen to. Idiot.

indiecool

adj, adv. Awesome, indie, cultured, deep, alternative, counterculture.

In order to be considered indiecool, one must be cultured, appreciate great ideas, and know a lot about something (veganism, HP, theatre, politics, etc).

Indiecool activities include, but are not limited to: reading literature, listening to indie music, utilizing an extensive vocabulary, dressing up in themed outfits by era, cooking vegan food, having an e-crisis, appreciating great thinkers, being eco-friendly, promoting human rights and equality, viewing museums and art galleries, drinking coffee and/or tea, being ironic, debating, analyzing everything for philosophical messages, enjoying class and planning to get/having a university degree (unless you're a starving artist).

Indiecool occupations include, but are not limited to: starving artist, egalitarian politician, jazz musician, craft blogger, history professor, United Nations translator, Geek Squad guy, bartender, librarian.

When not questioning their own existence or the absurd, indiecool kids occasionally have their own current of personal elitism. They may condescend on mainstream, hedonistic activities such as clubbing, listening to rap music, accepting the world without query, and blatantly copy-pasting wikipedia text into powerpoint presentations.
- What are your plans for this weekend?
- Well, I thought I’d check out the Andy Warhol exhibit with my VIP membership to the museum before heading off to the protest, where I will dress like a hippie, write poetry on my Macbook and vlog. Maybe if I have time, I’ll finish Le Deuxieme Sexe.
- You are so indiecool.

- What are your plans for this weekend?
- Well, I’ve realized that I’m going to die eventually, so I thought I’d just hide in a dark room and think about that. Maybe if I have time, I’ll reread archived A Softer World comics and cry.

Indie

1. A term used to describe a band/artist/etc. who does not belong to a big name record label, or no label at all. Though all these shitheads who put definitions here years ago all talk about a relation between "Emo" and "Shit rock music" they are wrong. Indie is not only rock. For every genre of music there is, there is an underground ('Indie', for people who can't keep up) scene behind it. Indie could also refer to the indie culture around it. As much as people want to swear up and down against labeling and the such, it just is what it is. There *is* an indie culture in lingo, interests, CLOTHES, etc. Many people like to spot an "Indie Kid" as anyone in their teens to mid twenties:
-wearing faded skinny jeans
-scruffy hair
-a cardigan, military jacket, pea coat, etc.
-wearing boots all the time
-walk around with an ironic expression on their face
-drink. And then drink some more.

Those are just some of the things a "typical" indie kid would wear or do.

Additional Information; Hipsters are the ones who are somewhat hard to tell apart. Hipsters may look and dress like an Indie Kid, but are somehow different. They may even listen to the same music as Indie Kids, but apparently they are still different.
Hipsters are normally the ones who are just about as indie as Indie Kids except for perhaps one thing (which takes away their indie title): Listening to mainstream.
That's it. Listening to the occasional mainstream.
Indie Kid #1: Oh yeah, I love the Teenagers, incredible stuff there.

Hipster #1: Yeah the Teenagers are great! I like the Kooks as well...

Uptight Indie Kid #1: The Kooks aren't "indie" anymore (scrunched look). Thinks: (Silly hipster girl)

"Hipster" #1: Yeah and? Are you one of those indie kids who have serious issues against mainstream?

Indie Kid #2 (who is much cooler): Yes, yes he is. C'mon, you wanna go to a Hadouken! gig with me? Tomorrow we can go to the Teenagers show. *friendly smile*

Uptight Indie Kid #1: Oooh! Can I come to the Teenagers show with you guys!?

Indie Kid #2: No.

Indie Pop

A genre characterized by pop conventions and structure, and a melodic, lighthearted sound. Artists generally use typical rock instrumentation (drums, guitar, bass, vocals), although some artists deviate from this, sometimes including electronics, piano, strings, or even eschewing guitar altogether.---------------Some examples (that you should totally checkout by the way) would be The Score, AJR, Grandson, Quinn XCII, Mumford and Sons, Jon Bellion, etc....
Person #1: Hey what genre of music is this it's actually pretty good!
Person #2: Oh it's an Indie pop band called The Score
Person #1: Cool I'm going to check them out.
