Grommet

A young or inexperienced surfer or skateboarder.

A possible etymology for the word may be from the Portuguese term 'grumete', meaning the lowest ranking person on board a naval ship - this word would have been used widely in South Africa in the period when surfing was becoming popular.

There are a lot of grommets surfing at the point today, dropping on on everyone.

Grommer

A particularly nasty smelling dump or fart.

After letting a couple grommers loose in the middle of the bar I went and dropped a yellow grommer that burned.

grommet

A metal eyelet, such as in a tarp, the thing your shoelaces pass through, etc.

The grommets tore out of this cheap tarp. Guess I'll have to go to the hardware store and get some replacement grommets, and possibly a grommet tool.
