grassplaining

The ancient republican martial art of starting a fire in a crowded theater and then immediately denying not only starting the fire, but also that there was a theater, or a fire, and going on to say how terrible it is that someone would do something like that.

The two lawmakers issued a joint statement Wednesday alleging "a criminal scheme involving the then-Vice President and a foreign national," in turn requesting production of an unclassified record which they claim could provide insight into any purported illegality.

Later, grassplaining in a new interview, the Senator seemed to imply that proof behind the allegations he made about the President's past and any communications with foreign nationals remains lacking.

Gasplaining

A male character in a movie telling a female character to calm down because she merely stated a concern or opinion, but the tone and delivery is as if she's raising her voice, weeping and screaming. The term is a portmanteau of "mansplaining" and "gaslighting". It was originally coined in the "screenwriting" subreddit as a description for one type of bad screenwriting.

When the man in that movie was telling the female protagonist to just calm the f*** down simply because she pointed out that he shouldn't light up a cigarette in a room full of high explosives, he was clearly gasplaining her.

The act of overwhelming someone with seemingly profound but ultimately impractical or vague "wisdom" and "insights," often delivered with unwarranted authority. What some self-professed influencer coaches do instead of actual coaching.

I asked my new life coach for help with my job search strategy. But instead of asking about my skills or interests, she spent the entire session gurusplaining to me how "the universe manifests your deepest intentions" and "success is a mindset, not a destination."
