chickeneur

A backyard urban or city dwelling chicken keeper, non-business, with a small hobby flock of chickens (less than 20). Keeps or raises chickens for personal use only such as for eggs or meat or as pets. Does not sell eggs or chicken products.

Additional background:

The term "chicken farmer" is probably incorrect as most states consider farmers as those in business to sell produce or animal products and the term "poulterer" or "poultryman" may include other types of birds such as turkeys that are raised to sell.

We talked with the 52-year-old chickeneur about egg prices since many large poultry farms were affected by the recent outbreak but the backyard flocks flourished.

The would-be chickeneur, continues to fight with the city about relaxing chicken keeping ordinances.

Similar to the usage of restaurateur - The manager or owner of a restaurant or a person who runs a restaurant.
