Initialism for African-American Vernacular English; an American English dialect that originated in the Southern United States by African Americans and is still spoken today in many African American communities

AAVE is frequently erroneously described as “Gen-Z speak” or “TikTok slang” which many consider offensive and erasure of Black culture.

Previously, and sometimes still, referred to as Ebonics
