Sock Day

The day a divorce becomes final.

The term is a reference to the house elves in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series, who (by the logic of the books) can be released from servitude if their "master" gives them an article of clothing. Specifically, the character Dobby the house elf is set free when Harry Potter tricks Dobby's master, Lucius Malfoy, into giving Dobby a sock, after which Dobby proclaims "Dobby is a free elf."

Today is my sock day. One last hour in court, a couple of signatures, and now I am finally free of my ex forever.
