Yankees

A term and nickname created by Southerners and Confederate Civil War soldiers for a person who is from the North (Midwest/Northeast). It was especially given to Union soldiers who fought in the American Civil War, usually having to go into into The South in order to engage the enemy in combat. The Union forces invading Southern territory and also incidents where a few groups of soldiers pillaged and destroyed property and people's lives resulted in making this nickname derogatory by some.

Northerners and Midwesterners get called "Yankees" a lot by many Southerners.

The act of something or someone that is of Southern US origin, but over time has come to more closely resemble a thing or person of Northern US origin.

After five years of living in New York City, her family worried she was fully yankified.

Professional sporting term used to describe a team that once held a significant lead on an opponent in a game or series, only to lose in dramatic fashion; Synonym of 'choked' ; Also see: MLB's 2004 American League Championship Series

Yankside

A simple maincore replacement for State-side, which actually makes no sense at all. Why? Because although folk from the USA like to use this expression to mean 'back in the USA', it could mean any State whatsoever.

Yankside immediately transmits the idea of the United States of America. Additioanlly as it is similar to but not the same as saying or writing State-side, it is instantly recognized as what it is: Being in the USA

"I've had it with Europe, I'll be Yankside in two days" said Cuthbert to his girlfriend.

I find that when Yankside, things are immediately safer, more American and less Communist
