The practice whereby an employee who is leaving a job is instructed to stay away from work during the notice period, to spend their time at home mooching in the garden while still being paid

It is used to prevent employees from taking the piss and company information when they leave, especially when they are leaving to join a competitor.

It is the best thing that could ever happen to your grade, and it "makes" you look smart but the truth is you ain't (Well at least not anytime soon). Also means that your whole class is stupid and dumb. But it seems to keep your parentals happy besides the other classes that you have an F in.
