The area of Beijing where the emperors of China used to live, in which no ordinary Chinese citizen or foreigner could enter without the emperor's permission
Any citizen or foreigner who entered the Forbidden City was immediately stabbed to death by the guards
Also called Zijin Cheng (Purple Forbidden City) or Gugong (Palace) in Chinese

1875: No one was allowed to enter the Forbidden City, and anyone who entered without the emperor's permission was immediately stabbed to death.
2011: Wow, I am so excited to visit Beijing and take a tour of the ancient Forbidden City, as well as the Tiananmen Square.
