Overextend oneself, undertake too many different enterprises. For example, Tom's exhausted; what with work, volunteer activities, and social life he's spread himself too thin. This expression alludes to smearing something (like butter on bread) in such a thin layer that it does not cover the surface. Jonathan Swift used spread thin in a positive sense, that is, something should occur less often (Polite Conversation, 1731-1738): "They (polite speeches) ought to be husbanded better, and spread much thinner."

With so many layoffs in one's work place there is nothing one can do except spread oneself too thin to keep one's job.

To stand on something easy to kick away (like a chair or a collection of Leo Sayer records) To tie a length of twisted or braided fibers into a noose, tie the other end of the length of twisted or braided fibers to an elevated, fixed object (like a tree branch or your employer's bedroom chandelier) place said noose over one's head and around one's neck, tighten the knot (making sure there is sufficient limitation in the said length of twisted or braided fibers so that one's feet cannot touch the ground when object/objects stood upon are kicked away), kick away said object/objects and 'neck' oneself until expiration takes place.

To neck oneself. To kill oneself by hanging. "I'm so sick of these fucking Leo Sayer albums that my employer keeps lending me that I think I'll neck myself."

While trying to call my son to tell him that he is out past his curfew and needs to come home, he contracted

Odense

Odense (O-then-se, like the English "then") is the third largest city in the Scandinavian country of Denmark, boasting some 170.000 inhabitants. It's located on the middle island of Fyn. Odense is the historical hometown of H.C. Andersen, the writer and poet. The older parts of the city are beautiful and worth a look, and the city is very much built for bicycling.

Odense is often described by it's own citizens as "biggest suburb of Denmark", and people there often believe that if something or someone "makes it" in Odense, they can make it anywhere. And they usually do.

Although there are a lot of students in Odense, many of them are communters, and so you won't see most of them in town.

Best student pubs are Sir Club and Den Smagløse (The Tasteless). For a game of pool go to James Dean or City Club. For really good and more expensive beer go to either Christian Firtal or Carlsens Kvarter.

Hey, I didn't know you lived in Odense?

Nah, I sort of moved away and came back. I just like this place.
