can't take a hint

Can't understand an innuendo, or can't connect the ideas and find out that there's an implicit meaning there.
I was acting uninterested the whole time and even avoiding him, but the flirty boy can't take a hint.

Professor Sean Hinton

A Professor Sean Hinton (usually shortened to a 'Sean Hinton' or a 'Prof Sean') is a cocktail. Served in a tall glass with ice it is composed of two shots of Jamieson's irish whisky, two shots of Jack Daniel's and is topped up with coke.

The purpose of a cocktail is to make spirits more palatable, a Professor Sean Hinton employs Jamieson's to take the edge off Jack Daniel's, unconventionally creating a more alcoholic beverage in the process.

hint hint

"Hint, hint" is what you say when you're trying to get someone to do something or realise what you're asking them for, when it would be rude or inappropriate to ask them to do it directly.

It is said humorously to make it a bit more obvious that you're giving hints as to what you'd like them to.
Brother: My friend is coming round tonight, and we're hoping to have a little bit of time alone together, hint hint, if you get my drift, hint hint.
Sister: OK OK, I get it, I'll get out of here.

Girl: Mmm, I think one of those engagement rings would look really good on me, don't ya think (hint hint)?
Guy: Hey, look at that... thing over there!

hinterland

Hinterland is probably German, because it is. It basically means as rural as you can get within range of a city. The phrase can also apply to any area in the stix, or way far out dude.
Jonas: Where does Steve live again? I always see him taking the 116 bus home.

Alistair: He lives way out in the English hinterland, up by Hemingstone. How the fuck did he get here?

Jonas: Probably banged a lot of important people.

Alistair: Yup.
