Plagiarism scandals involving “authors” stealing from multiple works and patching them together to take credit for a new and complete story.

Shey Stahl plagiarized several Twilight Fanfiction stories including Dusty and used patchwork plagiarism to write 'For the Summer' and probably all of her other books.

social plagiarism

When one uses a story/saying/information/anecdote that they recieved or overheard from another individual they know and they do not cite the source. In turn, implying that they themselves are the original source of information.

Maegan tells Leann that she talked to the band about their performance date change in Santa Cruz.
Later that evening, Leann tells a group of mutual friends that the performance date has been changed, without citing/acknowledging where she originally obtained this information. In turn, implying she spoke to the band herself, which could be construed to some as lying.
Thus, Leann commited social plagiarism.

The current status of not even noticing or caring that something has been plagiarized, or that you are doing it yourself, because our society seems entirely unconcerned that it happens.

We are living in a time of plagiarist norms partly because memes may have supervened the written word.

Giving Credit to a resource that you did not use at all, in order to achieve the minimum amount of required outside sources needed for a research paper or project.

"How did you get all your sources for the History paper?"

"I used reverse plagiarism on some books I found on Google and amazon."

paganism

A vaguely defined term from the Latin word Poganus meaning countryman that has become an umbrella term for a group of reconstructed pre-Christian beliefs systems which are often nature centred. Followers of these belief systems share a wide variety of beliefs as these beliefs systems tend not to be formally structured and very focused on individual spirituality. Their beliefs can be polytheistic, animistic, pantheistic, monotheistic, bitheistic, nontheistic or a mixture of the former. Alternatively and less confusingly the term Neopagan can be used as the term has also been used for centuries as a derogotory term for any non-Abramic belief system.

Religions that have come to be considered (neo)pagan include; Wicca, Shamanism, Astatru(thought Asatruars seem to prefer the term Heathen) and, Druidism.

Reverse plagiarism

Citing someone else for an idea that you came up with, if only to make it sound like a legitimate idea. This is the opposite principle to normal plagiarism, which involves portraying someone else's idea as your own. Neither is recommended.

Lazy student: Hmm. I think tax cuts for the wealthy were a bad idea. But where can I find support for that?

*gasp*
Student's work:

"Albert Einstein stated that President Bush should not have cut taxes for the wealthy. 'The actions of Herr Bush led to unsustainable budget deficits,' he wrote. Martin Luther King agreed, saying to thousands on the Mall, 'I have a dream . . . that President Bush's tax cuts will be revoked by a Democratic Congress.'"

Professor (reading essay): ????? I haven't seen students use reverse plagiarism for 34 years!
