Life.
The band room is your home
The bus rides your sleepovers... movies, games, truth or dare, and just being perverts!
The band wing is the cool hang out spot in the morning, even on days when you don't have band.
Social life = band. you have no time for anything else between band camp, rehersals, football games, more rehersals, competitions, auditions...
a band is a single unit that works together, in marching band, you find your very best friends, and your family.
and band can also be your source of injury like being run over by the tuba, or hit in the head by the colorguard.

air band

When you're listening to a really good song and can't decide what instrument to pretend to play, so you switch up every few seconds. Most common instruments include: lead guitar, rhythm guitar, drums, and keyboard.

I can't listen to Spraynard cuz I always start air banding really hard.

"I can't decide between picking the guitar, strumming the guitar, or drumming, so I'm just gonna air band."
"Dude, who CAN decide?"

Band kid

Someone who is often times a complete social outcast. Also known as Reddit lurkers Keep in mind that not all kids who participate in marching band are band kids. Band kids will often times repeat the phrase “marching band is a sport too” or “the marching band is the most important part of the football game”.
An example of a band kid action which actually happened at my high school: during the last football game the seniors stepped onto the field and their names were called off. A few kids in the marching band were saluting to the seniors. They were not asked to do this.

Band kid: Callmecarson is my waifu.
Normal person: What a band kid thing to say.

Zac Brown Band

As in the band responsible for such hits as "Chicken Fried", "Toes", and "Different Kind of Fine." This grassroots Georgia band is gaining popularity nationwide as they finally get some well deserved radio play.

I saw the Zac Brown Band last night at Cowboys and they kicked ass!

the phenomenon occurring in both high school and college marching bands.
Members of the band date only other members, around and around in a bizarre and incestuous love polygon.
This occurs primarily because band kids have no time outside of band to find a significant other, so they just date within the band.

Katie - "Did you hear? Mark and Tiffany are going out now."
Danielle - "Weren't you going out with Mark?"
Katie - "Not anymore. Still...it's totally bandcest."

band parents

A group of very dedicated people who work tirelessly to help assist high school marching bands. These are usually parents of current or sometimes former band members, and they will often assist in all kinds of band-related activities, from helping with band camps to loading instruments on busses and selling concessions. They can also be found involved in fundraisers and trying to make sure their kid actually sells some band candy this year. Also sometimes known as band boosters, these individuals are often instrumental (no pun intended) to keeping a high school band on its feet.

The band parents helped unload the instrument bus, then they made sure all the band uniforms had been put back correctly. Finally, at 11:30 at night, they went home.
