in reference to an unsuspecting asian person (esp. a tool), used by a non-asian solely as a way to meet other asians and to infiltrate their culture.

1) That American girl has never met an asian guy before. So she befriends the naive Takeshi -- her gateway asian. Now that she is comfortable with being around Japanese people and is seen by enough of his countrymen, she abandons Takeshi, eats a lot of sushi, and sleeps with hot asian guys.

2) Japanese kid (to an American girl): stay the fuck away from me. I'm not your gateway asian.

Gateway Anime

An anime-like show found on Cartoon Network or Boomerang that, though the art style resembles that of anime, cannot be qualified as such due to its non-Japanese origins. However, these shows have the capability of introducing the viewer to the anime art style and general fandom, hence the name "Gateway."

Pokemon and shows of the same type usually found on Cartoon Network also qualify as Gateway Anime, since they have been Americanized to the point of ridiculousness.

In short, Gateway Anime is anything even remotely anime-like that pops up on Cartoon Network, usually early in the morning or late at night.

Two examples of Gateway Animes are:
-The Powerpuff Girls (who can technically be classified as chibis)
-The 2003-2006 version of Teen Titans

Gateway Game

Much like a gateway drug, a gateway game is a game which introduced someone to playing video games.

Previously, gateway game consoles were strictly Nintendo. As time progressed, the console that the gateway games are played on have progressed as well.

Normally, a gamer with an older sibling is introduced to their gateway game by their older siblings. In this situation, the young gamer tends to play many gateway games.

Many consider Super Mario 64 to be the first gateway game for many gamers.

Jacob: Yo, Jackson! I just played the best game at Kyle's house! Call of Duty: Black Ops, I need to go and get a Xbox 360 so I can play that great game.
Jackson: Welcome to the world of gaming, although you could've picked a better gateway game.
