academic competition

Any competition directly relating to material learned in an academic environment that sends feelings of trepidation down one’s spine when mentioned, in which the participants are still attending some form of school attempt to show off their acquired knowledge.

Spelling Bee, Geography Bee, Math League, Knowledge Bowl, Knowledge Masters, Academic Triathlon, Robotics Team, Model United Nations, Intel Science Talent Search, etc … are examples of academic competitions.

compettytive

When rivalry between opponents in any matter intensifies and sinks to the most trivial, nit-picking, inane and embarrassingly immaterial level it becomes "compettytive" or infinitesimally petty. In such cases it is common to up the ante in an endless race toward utter nonsense and possible humiliation. AND against all rationality, the stakes can be ridiculously high.

BACKGROUND: The origins of this sort of struggle is a bastardization of G.W. F. Hegel's description of the Master-Slave dialectic, outlined in his "Phenomenology of Spirit" as an encounter between two subjects "who engage in a 'struggle to the death' before one enslaves the other, only to find that this does not give him the control over the world he has sought." (Wikipedia).

Rumor has it that in order to gain a seat in Congress, LBJ sunk to unethical compettytive depths in 1949 by accusing his wealthy and favored pig-farming opponent of having "routine carnal knowledge of his barnyard sows, despite the pleas of his wife and children."

Comey Shake

When you are forced to greet some one who you know is an absolute turd but are compelled to greet them. Like taking a big bight a stinking shit sand which -Usually in a formal or official setting.

I had to greet my ex wife's husband at my daughter 's graduation. Knowing that he is a turd on several levels , and wantes to be as cordial as possible I extended my hand out for a COMEY SHAKE from a safe distance , but got pulled in.

Definition # 1

When multiple participants attempt to gain a limited resource.

Definition # 2

Something that is mostly good when you pay to see the participants, but something that is mostly bad when you participate to be paid.

Example # 1

John and Sam paid to see the football competition for their entertainment.

Example # 2

Joey could not win the essay competition for a college scholarship. Joey's early life is now ruined.

Example # 3

Being a programmer in the 90's was great. Twenty years later though, because of high competition, it no longer pays as well.

Competitive

A city, person, or company doesn't need to be competitive. Being yourself even if it doesn't attract, or even repels people, is at least not compromising who or what you are to attract or impress people.

I'd rather live in a city that hasn't sold it's soul to developers and the real estate market that grows slowly over a city that sold out to get everyone to move there. I'd rather work for a company that didn't sell itself to grow bigger over one that did but became profitable. I'd rather be me than you or somebody else, no matter who hates me for it. How can anyone like someone uber competitive who will become anyone or anything to win at all costs?

Ironman Competition

A competition where 3 person teams compete to see who can finish a 30-Pack of Beer, eighth of weed, and a large pizza the fastest. The team that finishes first without puking is the champion.

Other variations of this competition include replacing pizza with other foods such as wings, hot dogs, or cheeseburgers.
