call fives

to insure that no one sits in your seat for five minutes if you get up (to throw out trash, go to the bathroom, grab some chips, etc.)
it literally means that you call your seat for five minutes; if you call fives, get up, and come back ten minutes later, your seat is liable to be taken
a very good system to avoid fights, bad feelings, and general undesirable situations
there is no such thing as 'calling tens' or any number other than five; this is because five minutes is a reasonable amount of time to be gone for

"I call fives, as I'm just getting a soda from downstairs. If anyone takes my seat, I will personally kick you in the nuts until you bleed."

wake up call

When you've been doing something self destructive for some time (perhaps without realizing it) before something serious happens that forces you to come to terms with what you've been doing and that you need to stop.

Usually involves something medical but can involve anything serious.

He used to eat tons of junk food, stuff with all sorts of sugar, salty snack foods, you name it. It doesn't help that he rarely exercised. He didn't seem to get that even the manufacturers of those foods stress the importance of a balanced diet. His wake up call was a heart attack that almost killed him. Fortunately, he took it seriously and made a lot of changes to his lifestyle.

They used to seem like they had everything. They lived well beyond their means. Most people thought they were rich. It took almost losing their house for them to start opening their eyes and living within their means. It was a real wake up call.

call of cthulhu

One of H.P Lovecraft's best known short stories. It was instrumental in forming what is now known as the Cthulhu Mythos. It is also the only story written by Lovecraft where Cthulhu makes an appearance.

Call of Cthulhu, is also the title of a popular pen-and-paper roleplaying game based on the Cthulhu Mythos that is published by Chaosium Inc.
