When someone is in need of public assistance, but make a nickel too much to be eligible.

"The cost of living has gone up so much that we're struggling to get by. I'm getting less food for a much higher price than a year ago, and my public assistance applications were denied. We would honestly be in a better place if I quit work and become eligible for all of the public assistance programs because right now I make a nickel too much to get a dime!"

A phrase used to describe an oddly specific scenario that has happened before. A shorthand reference to the now famous line from Dr. Doofenshmirtz in Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension. Can be used as the full quote, a “two nickels moment”, or simply “two nickels”.

“If I had a nickel for every time I was doomed by a puppet I’d have two nickels; which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice, right?”
