A term used to describe forward thinking electronic house music originating in the UK in the early 90's. Originally coined as a joke by a Mixmag journalist, it came to describe the sound championed by Sasha & John Digweed at Renaissance, Venue 44, Mansfield in the early 90's. "Renaissance - The Mix Collection" released in 1994 was the first ever DJ mix album, and defined the "progressive house" sound, taking in elements of trance and U.S. house. Other prominent DJ's in the "progressive house" scene include Dave Seaman, Nick Warren and James Zabiela.
Digweed was playing some proper deep prog last night
I love my progressive house but I also like tech-house and breaks
I love Sasha's progressive sound
This quality prog just stomps along
Sasha & Digweed B2B always does it for me

Get the progmitious mug.A Reddit subreddit where the developers annoyed by and tired of the grandiose and circlejerk that programmers showcase online gather and take the circlejerk to another level, in a meta fashion. The ritual usually involves "jerking" to selected material, and taking pleasure in it; it's exactly what it sounds like. The most commonly mocked subjects include Rust Evangalists, Gophers, webshits, functional purists, vim/emacs fans, C purists, and people who think they are "10x programmers" or that there is even such a thing. Their favorite jerking material is usually sourced from Hacker News, r/programming, and lobste.rs.
They don't tag the people being mocked, they "point and laugh from behind a soundproof one-way mirror" making it one the few circlejerk subs where harassing other communities and vote brigading doesn't occur. In fact, tagging the user whose content is being linked or mentioning the subreddit outside is a bannable offense.

Oh, fuck! A link to my content made it to the front page of r/programmingcirclejerk, I should reach for the garbage collector and clean up that shit.

Get the r/programmingcirclejerk mug.Lostprophets debut album. One of the most original and kick ass alternative/metal cds ever made. The album included the ridiculously good songs shinobi vs dragonninja, kobrakai, and a thousand apologies. If you have never seen this band live, you must. It will be one of the best acts you will ever see.
"Wait, this is lostprophets? Oh, the fake sound of progress is their first cd. Yea I know, Last Train Home sucked but this stuff is awesome."

Get the the fake sound of progress mug.Not really considered to be an official genre, and not really as much of a combination of the two genres (progressive house and breakbeat) as it is to destinguish itself from Breakbeat in it's Hip Hop influenced form - where more of the emphasis is on being funky.
A Prog Breaks fan is more often a discerning listener and a thinker. Typical features of Prog Breaks include:
> Tidily composed, cleverly arranged beats
> A variety of texture (rough, smooth, sharp, flat)
> Ingenuity and innovation in synthetic sound
> A breakdown of some kind (for a few seconds), where the artist has let their creativity loose with upfront synth sounds or with a crazy, unpredictable bout of broken beats set to send your mind boggling.
Notable artists include (but definately not restricted to) - Hybrid, Luke Chable, Phil K, Andy Page, Burufunk, Grayarea.
