The toll you pay by nodding, mm-hmming, and pretending to follow an endless monologue from a talkative partner so you can withdraw some benefits later. Often paid at dinner, in the car, or while they debrief you on an entire season of a show you’ve never seen.

Sat through a 20-minute rant about her friend’s boyfriend I’ve never met. Yap tax is steep tonight, but the ROI is looking good.

what are you yapping about

Used by mostly middle schoolers, primarily ones who have fallen victim to the "sigma" male, Andrew Tate, and Ohio trends as a counter-argument for someone promoting an opposing topic. (i.e. LGBT rights, Atheism etc.)

It is commonly used as a last resort whenever these people run out of valid arguments.
