metal

A misunderstood type of music that can not easily be appreciated if you haven't heard much of it. It may take a long time for you to warm up to it, but as soon as you do, there's no turning back. Contrary to belief, metalheads are not stupid or angsty - that's just throwing around labels.
1. Metal music is judged too easily.
2. People's minds need to be more open.

Metal Elitist

In short, the term is generally used to describe someone who thinks they are better than everyone else because of their taste in music. They tend to only listen to metal bands that are very obscure and will stop listening to said bands if they find out that more than 10 people listen to them, so they can be "unique". If they do happen to like a band that has become well known, (e.g Metallica) they will state that they only like their demos or first album and that everything else is crap. They usually bitch about bands like Cannibal Corpse for sounding the same on all of their records but complain just as much when a band happens to experiment or change their style on their next album (e.g Carcass, Morbid Angel.) Isn't that funny?

power metal

Power Metal is the description for today's "true heavy metal" sound. Power Metal bands are always guitar driven, with keyboards rarely making much of an appearance. The vocals are of the clean sounding variety, and usually feature very powerful, talented vocalists who can really reach the upper ranges of the vocal spectrum.

Generally, the songs are fast paced, and employ fantasy themes including (but not limited to) dragons, gladiators, warriors, valhalla, Lord of the Rings, polished steel weapons, and generally conceptual themes that deal with very "manly" concepts, at least in a historical sense. You will rarely find songs about love, sadness, or failure.

Power Metal is very uplifting, powerful music, that appeals to people who like to get inspiration from their tunes. Catchy, epic, and generally enjoyable as hell, Power Metal is a great genre that, regrettably, far too few people know about.
Lost Horizon is the finest example of power metal in the world today.

Metal

A type of music characterized by it's cacophonous wall of sound and accelerated tempo which is achieved through distorted electric guitars playing fast-paced riffs, with the driving drumbeat often utilizing hypersonic double bass rhythms and emphasizing the continuous pumping action, the bass guitar is often playing similar to the guitar, but more with the drums, so as to add to the overall heavyness and depth. It can manifest in many different forms and the spectrum of intensity is usually quite varied. From slow and heavy melodic grooves, to complex and precise blinding rhythms, odd time changes, and sheer brutality.. metal comes in many shapes and sizes. One common trait of metal is to have vocals dealing with dark subject matter, often sung with anger, aggression, and conviction in the form of screaming. Melodic smooth vocals are also accepted. Solos are an integral part of metal music, as the icing on the cake to complement the heavy intensity of the songs and add more depth and individuality. Real metal has a solo in every song, usually scales and arpeggios played with some changes often in 8th, 16th, or 32nd notes..if only a few quick licks. Metal is progressive and dynamic, and usually provokes feelings that are therapeutic to the listener. Metal is rock music that has evolved.

The Metcalf

The act of scheduling, committing to, or agreeing to be physically present at an engagement, meeting, party, event, get-together, sailboat ride, dinner, drinks with friends, vacation, or excursion, and without further communication, not attend. Once the act has been initiated, phones calls and text messages will not be returned until the morning of the following day, typically accompanied with a very elaborate and seemingly reasonable justification for the act. This act is typically initiated by the one performing the such act.
Jim calls Gary and Phil. Jim invites them to go watch the BIG game at the neighborhood tavern that night. Gary and Phil are happy and excited with this invite. They both agree and re-schedule their evenings accordingly, often times upsetting the family schedule to be able to attend. There is talk throughout the day confirming time and other details of what the night may bring. As the scheduled time approaches Jim stops answering his phone and texts, almost as though he doesn't exist. Jim never arrives. In the morning, when asked why Jim didn't show up or call, he replies that he couldn't leave his house because his dog chewed through the cord to the freezer and electrocuted himself, his cell battery died, and his daughter dropped the house phone in the toilet. Jim has successfully and cleanly performed The Metcalf.
