James McClatchy park was originally a small amusment park called "Joy land" which included a quite popular Ferris wheel. After the end of WWII people were getting laid off and began to lose their homes to bank foreclosures. Property value went down and Oak Park began to become more and more "ghetto". Oak Park is one of the more dangerous places to be in Sacramento that I can think of. The city owns almost half of the homes in Oak Park yet they dont seem to be doing a whole lot with them.
