Preppy girls and boys who sometimes sport Ramones t-shirts because Carson Daily made punk rock cool. They have no concept of punk rock, the punk attitude, or anything associated with it. All they know is that Skyler in sophomore English class is way hot, and he wears a Fall Out Boy shirt and sings in a band called "As My Eyelashes Turn To Dust and Blow Away in the Summer Winds."

Michelle started wearing a My Chemical Romance shirt when she saw Maddy in her bio class wearing one. She couldn't find one at Abercrombie though, so she had get it elsewhere. Her parents were worried, but Michelle promised she'd always remain a preppy punk for her love Maddy.

Merry-and-Pippin syndrome

The phenomenon that, in a film adaptation of a book, certain characters are portrayed as a lot more stupid than they are in the book. Supposedly this is done to make the movie 'more entertaining', but it often annoys fans of the book.
The name is derived from Merry and Pippin, two characters in The Lord of the Rings who are a helluvalot more stupid in the film than they are in the books.

That Zaphod Beeblebrox is really suffering from the Merry-and-Pippin syndrome.

prepper

Obviously, the word stems from the root word, prepare. It seems to me, a prepper could be basically anyone who likes or tries to be prepared for all contingencies, but seems to particularly imply preparedness for either small and large disaster scenarios.

(This word is NOT to be confused with the word, preppy, which has quite a different meaning.)

I was never really a preppy (even though I went to a prep school), but now I'm preparing to become a prepper, since these 2016 elections are putting the shit so close to the fan!

Not all preppers are the fanatics that are described or implied by some definitions. If you live in a place like California, especially if you live on a major fault line like I do, you really need to be a prepper; because when you run out of potable water, I'm not sharing mine with you! :p

preppy

n., as used in Love Story (written by Erich Segal, made in the early '70s)-- a "preppy"/"preppie" is one who is preppy.

adj., old money, classy, conservative, tasteful. See several definitions above: private schools and first-class colleges or legacies at colleges. Philanthropy is also valued. As far as clothing goes, these days it's mainly Polo, Burberry, Lacoste, Brooks Bros., L.L. Bean, etc. Preppiness is usually found on the East Coast, most often... it seems that several people are limiting it to New England, which is not right. I have enough friends from Richmond and Raleigh and New Orleans and Atlanta to tell you that preppiness is alive and well in the South-- it's often almost exaggerated down here.

n.-- Charlotte grew up a preppy, shunning her family's new-money, money-wasting ways.

adj.-- Hunt looked rather preppy in his duck boots sans socks and his Nantucket Reds shorts.
